Using a script include from a client script

Hi All,
I'm having an issue, I think I'm doing something wrong.
I have a script include which I'm using to build a Reference Qualifier string (which works as expected), the issue I'm having is that I need to call that function from a Catalog Client Script because if the reference qualifier would return no results we want to alert the user before they fill out the whole form.
The script include is "Client callable", Active and working fine in the reference qualifier.

Any help is appreciated.
